Program Description

Wild bears near Brasov can involve an easy walk of max. 5-10 minutes on easy-to-moderate difficulty path to get to the hide. This is a small cabin where you sit and watch wildlife through a window. You need to wear comfortable shoes if we are walking in the forest, dark and dull tops and no strong smells. You also need to be relatively still and quiet for about one hour inside the hide.

Wild Bear Watching Near Brasov: What to Expect

Experience the thrill of seeing wild brown bears in their natural habitat from the safety of a secure observation hide.
Wildlife Viewing: Hide vs. Safari
Choosing between a wildlife hide and a safari depends on the type of experience you prefer. Here is how they compare:
    • Viewing Distance: Hides offer a predictable distance of 50–70 meters. Safari distances are completely unpredictable and can be quite big and the light might not be enough.
    • Environment: Hides provide a controlled indoor experience. Safaris take place entirely outdoors in the elements.
    • Group Size: Hides can accommodate very large groups. Safaris are intimate, typically limited to 4–6 people.
    • Attractants: Hides use bait to draw wildlife. Safaris rely entirely on natural animal movements and the skills of the wildlife researchers

 

You will need to wear dull colors and appropriate clothes and shoes for a short walk in the forest, and to not use any lights while taking photos (this includes the light on your phone screen used to take selfies)
Important notes on wildlife watching:
– the food placed out by the foresters in the forest has NO tourist purposes, and most bears and other wildlife do not even get close to the hide as the forest provides more than enough food for them.
– depending on the hide we use on that day, there might be a short and safe walk from the place where we park the car to the hide itself and back (max. 10 minutes on almost flat terrain); you are always accompanied by a wildlife guide and a ranger, who both know how to handle any “unforeseen” situation
– you stay at the hide until the ranger decides it is time to move out, but minimum 1h (there is no toilet or other facilities you can use)
– the photo fee is included for non-commercial photos, but you will have to avoid using any kind of light, to not disturb the bears

You need to avoid using the flash, cover the red light on you camera (visible when the light decreases) and minimize the light on your phone screens for selfies
As this is a very popular activity – you need to book it way in advance

Transport is not included from Brasov, but can be provided upon request for an extra fee

This activity is very popular. It is very likely there will be other people joining your group at the bear hide. These people might come also from other tour operators and we cannot be held responsible for their behavior and state of health

    • Duration: No walking at this hide
    • The Hide: A secure, enclosed wooden cabin with large viewing windows.

What to Wear & Bring
    • Footwear: not important
    • Clothing: Dark, dull, or earthy colors (avoid bright whites, neons, or reflective gear).
    • Scent: Avoid perfume, strongly scented lotions, or body sprays or odours

Rules Inside the Hide
    • Silence: You must remain quiet and relatively still for at least one hour.
    • Movement: Minimize sudden movements to avoid startling the wildlife.

 

 

 

Costs

Cost: 60 Euro per person (shared trip) – minimum 2 persons paying, if one – check if we have a formed group for that day

This cost includes the photo fee for non-commercial purposes (through a glass window). There is another hide with openings for camera lenses, but this implies an extra photo fee and is booked only by prior request. Contact us if you want to book it.
